Sports Handicapping Then and Now

With online poker and sports betting websites controversies popping up in the news I thought it would be interesting to show that anti-gambling activities have been going on for quite a long time.

Here are some comments about the Anti-Gambling League during the late part of the 19th century. They had many of the same sports betting problems that folks face today.
The Anti-Gambling League.— Rightly or wrongly, man is a gambling animal, and we are not called upon to accuse or defend him in these pages. We might, speaking seriously, wish that he would not play the game quite so high, or make it, as he does in so many instances, the one great business of his life.

Fedor vs Werdum Live Stream Free

Fedor Emelianenko, the best fighter in the history of MMA, faces Fabricio Werdum, a top 10 heavyweight, Saturday, June 26 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California.

It's on Showtime, but if you don't have that channel you can still watch the Strikeforce card free live streaming at Channelsurfing.net. It's not some survey site or bogus blog link. It's a real site with free TV. Just click the link, scroll down until you see the Strikeforce M-1 Global listing for 10 pm EST. Bookmark or favorite this article so you can easily refer back to it at fight time.

ReTweet this article by clicking the green button above and hit one of the share buttons to the right to let other MMA fans know how to watch Fedor vs. Werdum free. Like you, I'm sick and tired of visiting live stream fight links that force you to take a CPA survey to access the fight. My links are safe. They are not phony blogs trying to set cookies. I make no money with these links. My sole purpose is to help MMA fans who are unable to watch the fight on TV. Enjoy.

You can also watch Fedor vs Werdum free live stream on Justin.tv. You don't even have to sign up for an account unless you want to chat with other MMA fans during the broadcast. An account at Justin.tv is 100% FREE. Just pick a username and enter your email. It takes about 60 seconds.

The fact that Werdum defeated Fedor's brother, Aleksander 3 1/2 years ago will not be a factor in this fight. Werdum got a take down, lay on Alek and sunk in an arm triangle choke. Aleksander couldn't do anything off his back against Werdum.

Fedor can fight aggressively off his back or standing. He has destroyed all the BJJ experts thrown at him.

Odds:

Fedor Emelianenko -550
Fabricio Werdum   +325

Pick: Emelianenko

Watch on Showtime 10 pm EST or Free Fedor vs. Werdum live streaming on Channelsurfing.net .

Tito Ortiz Cleared then Falsely Accused by Flip Flopping Jenna Jameson

It appears Tito Ortiz didn't lay a finger on Jenna Jameson. See video below where Jenna emphatically states Ortiz didn't beat her.

The facts point to Jameson relapsing into illegal drug use. Reports reveal Jenna has battled an addiction to the powerful narcotic oxycodone  and flipped out on Tito after he discovered she was using again. Oxycotin is the brand name of oxycodone, a highly addictive drug similar to morphine.

So what does Tito get for trying to save Jenna and keep his family intact? A false accusation of domestic violence. Jenna does a complete 180 degree turn from saying Tito is innocent to now claiming he's a wife beater. See video below.

According to TMZ, "Tito Ortiz's ex-wife is as surprised as anyone over his arrest for felony domestic violence yesterday -- because according to her, he would "never hurt a female."

Kristin Ortiz -- who was married to Tito for nearly 10 years -- tells TMZ Tito was an "amazing person, amazing father and an amazing human being."

Kristin also says there was never any violence during her marriage, which ended in 2005"

Misuse of drugs causes so much damage to the user and those around her. Just look at this sordid tale. We can only hope and pray Jenna Jameson will get the proper drug treatment and counseling she needs.

Jenna Jameson's original tune.

Wow, look at how quickly Jenna's tune changes when her drug use is exposed!

Urijah Faber vs. Jose Aldo, Faber Didn't Listen, Perhaps Manny Gamburyan Will Be Wiser

Congratulations to WEC Featherweight Champ Jose Aldo. What follows is my 100% wrong prediction on Aldo vs. Faber. I still stand by my article as the blueprint to defeat Jose Aldo but obviously Urijah didn't take my advice. Instead, he and his handlers adopted an ineffectual game plan for the Aldo fight that resulted in an ass whopping.

The key to beating Jose Aldo is right here in this article. Perhaps Manny Gamburyan, Mike Brown or another challenger will heed my advice.

Urijah Faber should defeat WEC  featherweight Champ Jose Aldo this coming Saturday, April 24th at the WEC's first PPV event. The explosive card, held at Sacramento's ARCO Arena, will also include a much anticipated rematch between Donald Cerrone and lightweight Champ, Ben Henderson (Cerrone clearly won their first match but, once again, incompetent judging gave the win to Henderson).

I'm surprised so many reports state that Urijah will have his hands full trying to deal with the explosive Aldo. I feel the opposite is true; Jose will be the one with a worried look in his eyes as he tries to deal with the former 145lb Champ. I'm not discounting Aldo's considerable skills. I just strongly feel Jose is not at the same level as Urijah Faber. Uriah is better than Jose in every fighting category. If you saw the official weigh in, you couldn't help notice Aldo's hands trembling as he faced a calm and determined Faber. Urijah shouted to Aldo, "No way Jose!"

Fight Info

What: WEC 48
When: Saturday, April 24
Where: Sacramento, Calif.
Tickets: $40-$185
TV: Pay-per-view
Betting Lines: Jose Aldo -350, Urijah Faber +250; (odds subject to change).
Official site: www.wec.tv

Urijah Faber has no quit in him. I've always been a Faber fan but because Mike Brown is so good and originally hails from Maine, I'm a fan of my fellow New Englander too. Aldo is newer to the WEC scene, but what he has accomplished so far has made me a big Aldo fan as well. However it was because of Faber's courageous performance in a losing effort to Brown, that I have a special admiration for Urijah. However, in this article I will try to pick the winner of Aldo vs. Faber, so which fighter is my favorite will have no influence on my pick.

In the second Brown fight Faber was doing well but had suffered two broken hands . Just imagine how he must have felt. He had a chance to reclaim his belt but two of his major weapons were useless! The California Kid never gave up. He kept trying to win, even swinging several standing elbows when his hands wouldn't work. How many fighters would have reacted as Faber did? How many would have rightly been discouraged and quit to avoid  further damage? That's the night I gained added respect for Urijah Faber. That performance demonstrated a champion's courage and heart. This must be factored into the equation

I've also seen Jose Aldo under pressure. He folded like a lawn chair. It was during Aldo's match against Luciano Azevedo, a good fighter but not in Faber's league. Azevedo put relentless pressure on Aldo. He hit him, he kicked him and tried for takedown after takedown until Aldo wilted. Luciano got the takedown, then side mount, then full mount, then took Aldo's back and choked him out. You can watch it below this article. You'll notice Aldo's weak ground game. In fact, before he crumbled, Aldo twice tried to fall out of the ring. I'm sure he's improved but at least in the video below, Jose had no confidence in his ground game.

To handicap Faber vs. Azevedo, you must be mindful of what really went on before the Mike Brown vs. Jose Aldo Championship fight. Mike Brown was not mentally right for that bout. There was so much going on with Mike before that fight that he couldn't perform at his best (see Brown video below).. Six days before the fight Mike was struck by Thiago Alvez's knee in a sparring session. He required 18 stitches to close the wound above his right eye and realized the gash would most likely reopen during the Aldo match. This is not an excuse for Mike's loss; it's important information you must factor in when handicapping Saturday's Aldo vs. Faber championship fight. The facts help you understand why Aldo overwhelmed Brown so you won't inflate Aldo's chances against Faber.

Faber is very fast, has vicious, powerful strikes, amazing submissions, superb wrestling skills, a strong chin, superhuman cardio and a champion's heart. It's all too much for Jose Aldo. Faber will win by submission in round 4.

Here's Luciano Azevedo's 2 part blueprint for beating Jose Aldo. Mike Brown's video follows part 2.

Duran vs Pazienza, My Over Under was 600 lbs!

I once attended a Roberto Duran fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas but couldn't take my seat. Duran was facing Vinny Pazienza, it was Cinque De Mayo weekend and I had great duckets. As I approached my aisle I was shocked to see a 600 lb Mexican fat guy in the seat next to mine.

Thick, sweaty, stretched marked rolls of blubber completely covered my seat! I stood there double checking my ticket against the seat number, while the slob casually chomped on a messy burrito and washed it down with a silo-sized soft drink.

This guy was "can't wipe his own ass" fat. I went to the MGM ticket window and explained my problem. A host came out and said, "OK, let's see how I can help you".

It was early in the prelims so the arena wasn't crowded yet. The MGM rep took one look at my dilemma, smiled and said he would fix it.

I followed him back to the office where he produced a ring side VIP pass for me! I tried giving him a huge tip but I swear he wouldn't accept it. He was genuinely only concerned with making me happy.

So there I was, hobnobbing ringside with all the celebrities. Although he was 43, Duran floored Pazienza in the 5th (see the knockdown at the 6 minute mark of video below) with a crushing right and almost knocked him down again in the 11th (8:20 mark), but Vinny survived and went on to win a controversial decision.

My VIP pass gave me complete access to the event, including the after parties. I met and spoke with Roberto Duran, who was gracious and welcoming to all his fans.

Here's the video that prompted me to write about my experience dealing with a fat guy in Las Vegas. Props to bryanmicon for posting it on YouTube.
